The Guernsey Boat Register is open to all vessels owned by Guernsey residents, companies, or foreign individuals and corporations.

Up to 64 shares can be divided among a vessel. Up to a total of 64 shares, shares may be owned either individually or in blocks. Up to a total of five people may jointly own one share or block of shares.

Shares may also be owned solely by one person.

You can register the private yachts up to a maximum of 150 gross ton.

For the Charter use, yachts under 24 m in length can be registered as well.

The following documents are required:

• Copy of Passport/ID
• Provide a Vessel name (To check from the registry if the name is available)
• Tonnage survey (Upon receipt of the Registry's confirmation of the vessel name, this should be commissioned as soon as is practical. It should be done by one of the qualified surveyors)
• Company certificate of incorporation
• Builder’s certificate (For new boats)
• Bill of sale
• Unbroken Chain of owners (Bill of sales) (If the boat was being purchased by multiple owners previously)
• Copy of Deletion from the previous registration (If the boat was registered previously)

Formal marking instructions will be issued once the Registry has accepted all the necessary documentation. The official number (provided by the Registry), the register or net tonnage, the boat’s name, and the port of registry will all be included in this, and they must all be marked on the boat.

If the vessel is already in Guernsey when the marking is finished, the Registrar will arrange an inspection. If not, photographic proof as required by the Registry should be presented.

The Certificate of British Registry, sometimes known as the "blue book," will be issued by the Registrar once he or she is satisfied that the vessel has been marked in line with Registry standards.
